Why Frome is different

Frome (BA11) commercial EV charging concentrates on the Marston Trading Estate, Commerce Park and the small industrial units off the A361. Typical workplace install is 4-8 sockets at 7 kW, load-balanced so the existing trade-unit supply doesn't trip during the daily charge cycle.

Frome's creative-industries economy means a lot of small-business workplace charging applications — single-phase 7 kW on existing TN-C-S supply, OZEV reclaim £350/socket, NAPIT-stamped EIC issued same week as install.

Larger BA11 fleet bays (couriers, taxis) get sized for 22 kW load-balanced overnight charging — Type A RCBO per socket, dynamic load management, OCPP back-office Cat6 hand-off so the operator can bill drivers and report on usage.

Common questions

What's the typical Frome workplace EV install?

Frome (BA11) workplaces — typically the small industrial estates around Marston Trading Estate and Commerce Park — sit at 4-8 sockets per install. We design these as 7 kW load-balanced workplace units rather than 22 kW (slower but lets more vehicles charge per phase) and reclaim £350/socket via OZEV. Total budget usually £4,800-9,500 + VAT before reclaim.

Is OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme really £350 per socket?

Yes — the OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme covers £350 per socket up to a maximum of 40 sockets (so £14,000 max per applicant). You must apply BEFORE we install — we'll handle the WCS voucher application and submit the post-install evidence pack on your behalf. The scheme is for businesses, charities and public-sector bodies with off-street parking.

Why does an EV charger need a Type A RCBO and not Type AC?

BS 7671 Amendment 2 and the IET EV charging Code of Practice both require Type A (or Type B) RCD protection for every EV charger. Type AC RCDs cannot detect the DC residual currents that EV charging produces — under fault, they can blind and fail to trip. Every install we do gets a Type A RCBO per socket as standard. We'll never fit a Type AC on an EV circuit.
