The biggest difference between a house and a home you love being in at 9pm is the lighting. We install Philips Hue room-by-room or whole-house: warm-to-cool tunable white, colour where you want it, and scenes that take the kitchen from school-run bright to dinner-party warm in one tap. Where Hue isn’t the right answer we wire conventional dimmable circuits with quality trailing-edge dimmers — drivers and dimmers matched so nothing buzzes or flickers. Designed alongside our lighting design service rather than bolted on afterwards.
A smart thermostat is one of the few home upgrades that pays you back every month. We install Hive and Google Nest thermostats: a clean fused supply, the receiver wired correctly at the boiler, the thermostat where it will actually read room temperature (not above a radiator), and the app set up before we leave. Schedules, geofencing and frost protection configured to how your household actually runs. We handle the electrical wiring and controls — your Gas Safe heating engineer remains responsible for the boiler itself.
A battery doorbell that dies in November is not security. We wire Nest and Hive video doorbells and cameras to a permanent supply — transformer sized correctly, cable hidden, no charging ritual. For serious coverage we tie the doorbell into a wired Hikvision CCTV system recording locally to an NVR, so the smart layer is the convenience and the hard-wired layer is the evidence. Everything we install is set up and handed over working — not left in the box with a QR code. Hue, Hive and Nest all run from their own apps and work with the major voice assistants (Amazon Alexa and Google Home across the range; Apple HomeKit on Hue). We group rooms sensibly, name devices so the whole family can use them, and walk you through scenes and schedules before we leave. One caveat we’ll always check first: smart homes lean on your Wi-Fi, so if coverage is patchy we’ll tell you — and can fix it with proper wired access points.
Anyone can buy a smart bulb. The difference with an electrician-installed system is underneath: neutral conductors brought to switch positions so smart switches work properly, fused spurs for doorbells and hubs, dimmer modules matched to the lamps they drive, and circuits tested and certified to BS 7671 with a Minor Works or Electrical Installation Certificate. No trailing leads, no overloaded extension blocks, no “unresponsive device” because a plug got knocked. It works on day one and it still works in year five.
Smart control should not mean plastic boxes stuck over your skirting. We fit Click Scolmore wiring accessories throughout — their Definity and Deco ranges in brushed steel, polished brass, matt black and white — so the switch plates, sockets and fused spurs behind the smart layer look like they belong in the room. Period property in Wells or new kitchen in Bath, the hardware matches the house.

If a brand isn’t on this list, we don’t install it — and we’ll say so rather than learn on your job. For whole-house programmable control systems (Lutron, Rako and similar) we recommend a specialist integrator: we wire the circuits, they spec the control layer.
