What does a
callout cost?

Upfront, no surprises. The rate you're quoted on the phone is the rate you pay. Contract clients receive lower callout fees and discounted hourly rates.

Contract clients pay lower callout fees, discounted hourly rates and have a dedicated priority queue — see below. All prices exclude VAT. No hidden fees, no per-mile charge within Mid Somerset, no "emergency premium" on top.

Van loaded with Megger multifunction tester, thermal imaging camera, spare MCBs, RCDs, stock of common consumer unit parts. We set off immediately.

Step 03

Diagnose and make safe

Fault located using insulation testing, earth loop impedance and visual inspection. Dangerous circuits isolated. You get a clear explanation of what's wrong.

Step 04

Repair and certificate

Repair completed same visit where possible, or temporary make-safe with a follow-up booked. Minor Works Certificate issued — we email a PDF copy with photos and invoice.

How fast do you actually respond?

Contract clients: 1-hour target. General public: typically under 2 hours for critical faults across Mid Somerset. Rural edge-of-patch calls, severe weather, and multiple simultaneous callouts can push this out — we'll always give you a realistic ETA on the call so you can plan.

Do you really answer the phone at 3am?

Yes. One of the two directors — Dan Stevens or Dan Street — is on the line out of hours. You speak to a qualified electrician who can often tell you if it's a genuine emergency, a safe-overnight problem, or something you can DIY with the right instructions.

What counts as an emergency?

Total power loss, burning smells from sockets or consumer units, sparking accessories, flooding near electrics, an RCD that won't reset, failed landlord EICR remediation with tenants on site, commercial power failure during operating hours. If you're not sure — call. We won't charge you to tell you it can wait.

Is there a call-out fee even if you don't do any work?

Yes, but only if we attend. If we diagnose the problem over the phone and you don't need us on site, there's no charge. If you cancel before we leave the van, no charge. The callout fee covers the first hour of labour once we're on site.

Do you take card payments out of hours?

Yes — Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, bank transfer, all in-van. Commercial and contract clients are invoiced on 30-day terms.

What if the fault is on the supply side (DNO)?

We'll diagnose that quickly with loop impedance testing. If it's a DNO fault (supply failure from the grid), we'll confirm it, help you report it to Western Power / National Grid, and make your installation safe. You still pay the callout fee for attendance, but there's no repair cost on a supply-side fault.

Can you do commercial 24/7 contracts?

Yes — offices, restaurants, care homes, hotels. We carry public liability to £2M, hold CHAS accreditation, and supply full written reports suitable for insurers and HSE. Pricing is bespoke based on portfolio size and risk profile.
