Doorbells

Doorbells, wired in for good.

Wired chimes, and a proper power supply for video doorbells. You choose the doorbell; we wire and power it, so there are no batteries to charge and no cables stuck to the front of the house.

What we do

Chimes, power and the cable in between.

01

Wired chimes

A chime powered from the house wiring through a small bell transformer, with low-voltage cable to the push at the door. No batteries to replace.

02

Video doorbell power

Wired video doorbells need a steady low-voltage supply. We provide it to the doorbell maker's specification, so the doorbell stays powered and ready.

03

Extra chimes

A second chime upstairs, in a garden room or in a workshop, including chimes with a flashing light, so the door can be heard, or seen, from anywhere.

Video doorbells

Power is the part that goes wrong.

Most video doorbells can run on a battery, but a wired supply means no recharging and a doorbell that is always ready. Each model sets out the power it needs in its installation guide: the voltage, how much it draws, and whether the existing chime stays connected.

We read that guide and match the supply to it. Sometimes the existing bell transformer is suitable; often it isn't, and a new transformer or a dedicated power supply is fitted instead. Some doorbells need the maker's own module fitted at the chime. Some take power over a network cable, which can be the neatest option where the doorbell also needs a reliable wired connection; see our PoE networking page.

We wire and power the doorbell and check it powers up. The doorbell, its app and any subscription are your choice; we don't sell or recommend a particular brand, so you can pick the one that suits you.

At the front door

Neat, sealed and solid.

The front door is the first thing visitors see, so the install should be tidy. We plan the cable route before drilling, and on stone and rendered walls we take extra care with the hole and the seal.

  • Cable routed through the wall or door frame, not stuck along the outside
  • Transformer or power supply fitted somewhere safe and accessible, not buried
  • Doorbell mounted at the height and angle its maker recommends
  • Holes through stone, brick or render sealed against the weather
  • Wi-Fi signal checked at the door first; if it is weak, we can wire a network point or access point to fix it

How it goes

Four steps.

01

Send the model

Tell us which doorbell you have, or are buying, and send a photo of the front door and the existing chime if there is one.

02

Power plan

We check the maker's power requirements against what is already there and tell you what is needed before we start.

03

Fit and wire

Supply, cable, chime and doorbell fitted, with the cable run hidden wherever the building allows.

04

Test

We test the electrical work, check the doorbell powers up and rings the chime, and certify the installation.

Planning wider security? We also install CCTV and security lights, so a doorbell, cameras and lighting at the front of the house can be planned and wired together in one visit.

Pricing

What affects the job.

Every job is priced individually. Send us a few photos and we can often quote without a visit; if we need to see it, we survey first and give you a fixed written quote.

  • The wall and the cable route from inside to the door
  • Whether the existing bell transformer suits your doorbell
  • Where the chime and any extra chimes will go
  • The Wi-Fi signal at the front door
  • Whether the doorbell takes power over a network cable

Any plastering or decorating around new cable or switch routes is by others, unless it is written into your quote.

For a quote from photos

Send us these.

  • The doorbell's make and model, or a link to it
  • The front door and the wall either side
  • The existing chime and transformer, if you have them
  • Where you'd like a chime to go

We cover Wells, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Street, Frome, Bath, Bruton, Castle Cary, Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Wedmore and the villages between. All areas.

FAQ

Doorbell questions.

Can you fit the video doorbell I've bought?

Yes. You choose the doorbell; we wire and power it to the maker's instructions, mount it, and check it powers up. Send us the model first so we can check what it needs.

Can my existing doorbell transformer power a video doorbell?

Sometimes. It depends on the voltage and power your doorbell needs, which is set out in its installation guide. We check the existing transformer against it, and fit a suitable one if it falls short.

Can you replace a battery doorbell with a wired one?

Yes. We fit a bell transformer, run low-voltage cable to the push at the door, and fit the chime where you'll hear it.

Can I have a chime in another room or an outbuilding?

Yes. We can add extra wired chimes, including in a garden room or workshop, or a chime with a flashing light.

Do you set up the doorbell app?

The app account and any subscription are yours. We make sure the doorbell is powered and ready to connect, and we check the Wi-Fi signal at the door before we mount it.
