Common questions

Do you cover BA5 villages outside Wells itself?

Yes. We regularly work in Wookey, Wookey Hole, Coxley, Croscombe, Dinder, Dulcote and the surrounding BA5 villages. Wells is 15 minutes from our Glastonbury base, so call-out is fast and there's no extra mileage charge inside the BA5 ring.

Does my hot tub need a Type A RCBO?

Yes — every hot tub circuit gets a Type A 30mA RCBO. Hot tubs use VFDs (variable frequency drives) for pump speed control, which generate DC residual currents that a Type AC RCD can't see. A Type A RCBO is mandatory under BS 7671 for any circuit with electronic motor control. We never use Type AC on hot tubs.

How far can the hot tub be from the consumer unit?

Distance isn't usually the limiting factor — cable size is. For a 32A run over 20m we'd typically use 6mm SWA; over 30m we'd up to 10mm to keep volt drop under 5%. We calculate this as part of the survey and confirm before pricing the cable run.
