Why hot tub electrics in Bruton is different

Bruton (BA10) has become a destination village thanks to Hauser & Wirth Somerset and a wave of high-end refurbishments. Period stone cottages on the High Street, Georgian houses around the Dovecote, and converted barns in the surrounding hills are typical — hot-tub, shower and immersion work here is invariably high-spec, design-led and needs a careful, low-impact installation.

Common questions

Can you do high-spec work to match a Bruton refurb standard?

Yes. We've worked on properties in Bruton, Castle Cary and Pitcombe where the architect or interior designer expects neat, low-profile, first-fix work with everything documented. We provide drawings, test certs, photos of buried cable runs and a clean handover pack.

Does my hot tub need a Type A RCBO?

Yes — every hot tub circuit gets a Type A 30mA RCBO. Hot tubs use VFDs (variable frequency drives) for pump speed control, which generate DC residual currents that a Type AC RCD can't see. A Type A RCBO is mandatory under BS 7671 for any circuit with electronic motor control. We never use Type AC on hot tubs.

How far can the hot tub be from the consumer unit?

Distance isn't usually the limiting factor — cable size is. For a 32A run over 20m we'd typically use 6mm SWA; over 30m we'd up to 10mm to keep volt drop under 5%. We calculate this as part of the survey and confirm before pricing the cable run.
