Why Part P matters on domestic work

Part P of the Building Regulations covers electrical safety in dwellings. Notifiable work — kitchens, bathrooms, new circuits, consumer unit replacements, outdoor sockets — must either be done by a Part P registered electrician (us, via NAPIT 66245) or signed off by Building Control. That second route costs money and takes weeks. We self-certify everything we install, register the job with NAPIT, and you receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate by post within 30 days. No Building Control fees, no extra inspection, no delay.

Our reference is NAPIT 66245. We pair it with City & Guilds 2391 (inspection & testing) and CHAS 158368 (commercial pre-qualification — useful for builder / contractor packs). All jobs are signed off to BS 7671 18th edition.

Plus full £5m public liability, £10m employers' liability, Enhanced DBS for jobs in homes with children, and 12-month workmanship guarantee on every install backed by the TrustMark Government Endorsed scheme.

Common questions

What is Part P and why does it matter for domestic electrical work?

Part P of the Building Regulations covers electrical safety in dwellings. Notifiable work — kitchens, bathrooms (special locations), new circuits, consumer unit changes, outdoor sockets — must either be done by a Part P registered electrician (us, via NAPIT 66245) or signed off by Building Control. We self-certify everything we install, register the job with NAPIT, and you receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate by post within 30 days. No Building Control fees, no separate inspection.

How much does a fuse board / consumer unit upgrade cost?

From £950 + VAT @ 20% for a standard 10–14 way Hager / Wylex / Schneider 18th-edition consumer unit with dual RCBO protection on every circuit, fitted in a day, including BS 7671 minor works certificate and NAPIT Part P notification. Older split-load boards with shared RCDs are no longer compliant for new EV / hot tub / outdoor circuits, so most upgrades happen alongside a kitchen rewire, bathroom refit or EV charger install. Free survey before any quote.

How often does a domestic property need an EICR?

BS 7671 IET Guidance Note 3 says owner-occupied homes every 10 years (or on change of occupancy), private rentals every 5 years (statutory under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector Regulations 2020 in England). We charge from £30/circuit single-phase — typical 3-bed home with 6–8 circuits is £180–£240 + VAT, full report and remedial schedule within 5 working days.

Can you install a home EV charger and apply for the OZEV grant?

Yes. Hypervolt, Zappi, Ohme, Andersen, Project EV, Wallbox — all OLEV / OZEV approved chargepoints. Type A RCBO on every install (mandatory for EV charging), DNO notification submitted, OZEV EV chargepoint grant application supported (£350 off if eligible — landlord and flat-occupier scheme still active in 2026, owner-occupier grant ended 2022). From £495 + VAT for a standard fit including survey, install, commissioning and app pairing.

Do you do bathroom and kitchen electrics?

Yes — bathrooms are notifiable special locations under BS 7671 Section 701 (Zone 1 / Zone 2 / Zone 3 IP-rating rules). Shower circuits, fan circuits, mirror lighting, IP65 downlights, shaver sockets and shaver cabinets. Kitchens cover oven and hob circuits (32A radial), dishwasher / washing machine spurs, under-cabinet lighting, integrated extract, downlights, fridge / freezer dedicated circuits and induction hob heavy-load supplies. From £180 for an oven circuit, full kitchen rewire from £1,400 + VAT depending on layout.

Do you cover heritage and listed buildings?

Yes — Glastonbury, Wells, Bath and Bruton are full of Grade I and Grade II listed properties. Heritage rewire technique is concealed routing under floorboards and behind skirtings, surface conduit (brass or steel) where concealment isn't possible, antique brass / pewter / aged-bronze accessories (Click Scolmore Deco / Deco Plus screwless metallic), and like-for-like positioning to keep listed-building consent simple. EICR is walk-round assessment style with reduced disturbance. Full detail on the heritage rewires page.
