About Chilcompton

A village on the road between Radstock and Wells

Chilcompton lies on the B3139 between Radstock and Wells, close to the A37, with a population of around 2,000. The River Somer begins here, rising in small streams around the village before flowing on through Midsomer Norton. The parish church of St John the Baptist is Grade II*.

Like its neighbours, Chilcompton was part of the Somerset coalfield, and a coal waste mound still stands at the north-east end of the village. The Somerset and Dorset Railway ran through until 1966, when the station closed.
