Wedmore sits on its ridge in the Somerset Levels, between the Axe and the Brue, with Georgian houses around The Borough, Victorian villas, and farmhouses and converted barns spread along the lanes towards Theale, Blackford, Mudgley and Westhay. Rural houses come with rural electrics: outbuildings, long cable runs, gates and stables. Our electricians cover all of it, from a faulty light switch to a new supply across a field.

In a spread-out parish like Wedmore it pays to gather small jobs together into one visit from our Mid Somerset base. Most households have a few things they have been meaning to sort: a dead light in the porch, a socket that wobbles, a bathroom fan that has stopped, an outside tap area that needs a weatherproof socket. Priced together, they usually work out cheaper than separate visits.
Before we come, walk round the house and garden and write it all down, then send the list with a few photos, including one of your consumer unit. We will price the visit as a whole and bring what is needed for every item.

The older houses in the village centre tend to have high ceilings, solid stone walls on the ground floor and suspended timber floors above. Requests are mostly about lighting and outlets: wall lights in a drawing room, extra sockets where desks and televisions now sit, better light in a long hall, outside lighting at the front door. Cable goes under floors and through ceiling voids wherever possible, so finished rooms are disturbed as little as possible.
Where the wiring itself is old, adding to it can be the wrong decision. If we have doubts, we will recommend an EICR in Wedmore before you spend money on extensions to circuits that may need replacing. For houses of real age there is also our heritage rewiring page for Wedmore.
Every job is priced individually. An EICR depends on the size of the installation, the number of circuits and whether the supply is single-phase or three-phase; an EV charger on the charger chosen and the length of the run; consumer units and rewires on what we find at the survey. Outbuilding supplies depend on distance and route, so they are priced after a look at the site. You get a fixed written quote before any work starts.
A good part of our work around Wedmore is outside the house. Every outbuilding supply needs three things to be done properly:
Gates are a frequent fault call. At Baltonsborough, another Levels-edge village, we jointed and weatherproofed a damaged gate supply cable and then found the real reason the gate had stopped: a blown fuse. Testing afterwards confirmed both repairs.

How a house is earthed affects how its electrics are protected. In towns, the earth is usually provided through the supply network. Out in the country, some houses rely on their own earth electrode in the ground, and some older arrangements have never been upgraded. We check the earthing arrangement whenever we work on the board or add a new circuit, and we check it at survey for any car charger, because some properties need an earth electrode for that. The details are on our EV charger page for Wedmore.
Long runs are normal for chargers in rural houses. At Wookey, between here and Wells, we installed a Hypervolt charger fed through 48 metres of armoured EV cable with an integral data cable, laid through a duct and a garden route, with its own outdoor IP65 enclosure, Type A RCBO and surge protection.

Leave your details and a line about the job. We will ring you back to talk it through and arrange a survey or a written price.
Yes. It does work better for everyone if small jobs are grouped, so if you have a few things that need doing, send them as one list with photos and we will price the visit as a whole. A single socket is still worth a call, but most people find they have more on the list than they thought.
Yes. We survey the route, calculate the cable size for the distance and load, and run armoured cable either buried, in duct or clipped to structures. The building gets its own protection and isolation, and the supply is tested and certified.
Not in itself. It is a normal arrangement for country houses. It does mean the protection has to be designed around it, and the rod and its connection should be tested. We check the earthing arrangement whenever we work on the board, add a circuit or survey for a car charger.
Call-outs are in hours, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00, and the price depends on the fault. Parts are charged at cost plus 10%. That applies to fault-finding where the cause is unknown. Planned jobs, such as new sockets, lighting or an outbuilding supply, are priced as a fixed figure instead.
Yes. We work in Theale, Blackford and Mudgley as well as the village itself, out towards Westhay and Meare on the Levels, and across to Wookey, a little over five miles east. Farms and isolated houses along the lanes between them are covered too, and that is where outbuilding and supply work usually comes from.
Priced by the job, not by the hour. A written, fixed price after a survey, NAPIT certification on every notifiable job.
