Paulton is a large village of around 5,300 people close to Midsomer Norton. The Somerset Coal Canal ended at Paulton basin, just north of the village, which has the largest dry dock on the canal system; restoration work there began in 2013. Old Grove, Prior’s, Tyning and Hayeswood pits sent coal along it.
The village has a designated conservation area and a Grade II* parish church, Holy Trinity. Paulton Memorial Hospital serves the area. Between 2009 and 2015, the former Polestar Purnells printing works was replaced by around 420 new homes.
That gives Paulton two quite different kinds of electrical work. In the older part of the village, inside the conservation area, houses have typically been altered over many years, and benefit from an EICR before any significant work. Rewires there are planned around solid walls.
The homes built on the old printing works site and other newer estates have modern installations. Work there is usually about adding to them: EV chargers, garden rooms, outside sockets and lighting. Homes built between 2009 and 2015 will have had mains alarms fitted when new, and those alarms are now past or close to their ten-year replacement date.
Owners of newer homes should keep the Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulations certificate handed over at completion. They are the baseline any future inspection is compared against, and a buyer’s solicitor may ask for them when you sell.

Our Midsomer Norton pages cover each service in detail, including how we price each job. They apply equally to Paulton.
