Mains-powered, interlinked smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms for Frome homes, flats and lets, fitted with care in older buildings where plaster and ceilings matter.
Every home priced individually, with a fixed written quote.

In an older house the challenge is not choosing the alarms; it is fitting them without damage. Hardwired interlink means a cable between every alarm, which in a house with lime-plaster ceilings and original floorboards can mean a lot of disturbance. Radio interlink avoids most of that. Each alarm still needs a permanent mains supply, which is normally taken from a nearby light, and the alarms talk to each other by radio.
We fit to BS 5839-6 Grade D: mains alarms with a sealed back-up battery, all linked. Smoke alarms go in circulation spaces and living rooms, a heat alarm in the kitchen, and CO alarms in rooms with a boiler, gas fire, wood burner or open fire.
Older houses often have fireplaces or stoves. Every room with a fixed combustion appliance should have a CO alarm, and in a rented home that is the law.
With around 370 listed buildings and most of the centre in a conservation area, a lot of Frome homes need alarms placed thoughtfully. Ceiling-mounted alarms are small, but on a decorative ceiling the position still matters. We agree each one with you, avoid cornices and ceiling roses, and avoid visible cable wherever we can.
Flats above shops and in converted buildings need their own alarm system for the dwelling. Where there are shared stairs or communal areas, the requirements for those parts depend on the building, and a fire risk assessment by a competent person may be needed. That is separate from our electrical work.
Newer houses usually already have mains alarms fitted when built. Those reach the end of their ten-year life, and replacing like for like is a quick job.
We certify the electrical installation of the alarms. We do not issue fire certificates or fire risk assessments.
We don't publish a price list, because no two homes need the same alarms. The price depends on the number of rooms and storeys, which alarms are needed and whether the interlink is radio or hardwired, as hardwired interlink in an existing house means more cable runs. We look first, by survey or from photos, then quote a fixed price in writing.
Most homes are completed in a single visit.

We fit alarms in Norton St Philip, Beckington, Rode, Hinton Charterhouse, Mells, Great Elm, Nunney and Buckland Dinham. Cottages with inglenooks and wood burners need CO alarms in those rooms, and open staircases change where smoke alarms go.
Landlords: see landlord compliance in Frome. Shops and offices need a panel system: fire alarms in Frome.
