BS 7671A heritage rewire isn't a normal rewire. In Batcombe you are nearly always working in solid stone with lath-and-lime plaster over it, which rules out chasing and modern plasterboard shortcuts, you can't drill through original cornice, and you can't bury cables under modern plasterboard tricks. Every cable route is planned through joist voids, behind original skirting, under floorboards or around chimney breasts. Lath-and-plaster walls get fished from above and below, never broken open. No surface trunking, ever. Brass plate accessories (Click Scolmore Definity / Forbes & Lomax / Hamilton, specifier-led) replace plastic. Dimming circuits installed throughout to match period lighting design. Full Listed Building Consent supporting documentation provided as standard.

The Somerset Council (former Mendip district) conservation team usually signs off straightforward heritage rewires within a few weeks; complex jobs may need a heritage statement.
We fish cables down through the void between lath and stud using rods, draw cords and access via floorboards above or skirting below. New back-boxes are cut neatly with a multitool, never with a chase grinder. Where a route is impossible without damage, we route via the floor void in the room above and drop in. Surface trunking is never used on heritage work.
