The £99 health check covers: visual inspection of your consumer unit (type, age, RCD/RCBO protection present), check of all circuit breaker ratings against cable sizes, identification of any obvious defects or non-compliant arrangements, and a written report with recommendations. It is not a full EICR — it is a fast, affordable way to know if your board needs upgrading or further investigation.

When does a fuse board need replacing?

Replace your consumer unit if: it uses rewireable fuses (pre-1970s), has no RCD protection (pre-2008), is a plastic enclosure (non-compliant since 2016 in domestic properties), has insufficient ways for the circuits you want, or keeps tripping under normal load. Our health check identifies which category you fall into.

How much does a full consumer unit replacement cost after the health check?

Accepted Answer

If the health check identifies that replacement is needed, a full metal-clad RCBO consumer unit replacement costs from £750 for most domestic properties, including all connections, testing, and Part P certification. The £99 health check fee is deducted from the installation price if you proceed.
